Simon King was the Osprey specimen Group Record Officer and had been compiling an book to mark the tenth birthday of Osprey, this had slowed down because as we now know Simon had Cancer.

Simon was my best angling friend and we spent a great deal of time fishing together, which every year turned into a hunt for that elusive 8lb Chub, so elusive it had evaded us for 10 years, Simon had come the closest with a chub of 7lbs 15ozs.
So the 2012/13 season rolled around again and we started fishing just below the Green Bridge on the relief channel in the Autumn, much the same as the previous years, if you remember it became one of the coldest winters for years, but on the 2nd of January 2013 Simon rang me to say he had done it at last and caught an 8lb 14ozs Chub, this is chronicled in the book.

By February he had another 8lb chub under his belt, but this was to be the last time he went fishing as he was diagnosed with cancer a short while later, which after a fierce battle he succumbed to 6 months later. I decided that the book must carry on and asked some of Simon and my friends to contribute to this book and with the help of Clive Bradley Osprey Secretary and Daryl Close Osprey Treasurer, has come to fruition and been produced by Calm Productions.

All the profits from this book will go to Cancer Research UK in memory of Simon King.

Kind regards

Bob Hornegold
