Our New Online Survey – www.anglingtrust.net/membershipsurvey

Make your views known on the angling issues that matter by taking part in our online survey at www.anglingtrust.net/membershipsurvey – it should take you less than 10 minutes.
We’ll publish the results in November and use them to prioritise our work over the coming year. Please forward this email to your angling networks so that others can participate in the survey too.

We really appreciate your continued support as an Angling Trust Ambassador – please continue to encourage every angler you meet to join the Angling Trust – many thanks!

Throop barbel stocking

The famous Throop Fishery on the Dorset Stour has benefited from a boost to barbel stocks with the introduction of 1500 small barbel, in a stocking project organized by the Barbel Society, with funding shared between the BS and controlling club, Ringwood DAA.

The barbel have been marked, and their progress will be monitored by Bournemouth University, who will be asking for catch returns in the next few years to see how well the little barbel survive.

“Stour barbel have suffered a decline in numbers in recent years, most likely due to loss of spawning habitat after extensive dredging work, but there are signs the population is recovering, and along with continued habitat work, the Barbel Society will continue to help with further research and stocking where appropriate” said Pete Reading, Barbel Society Conservation Officer.

“We have been pleased that the EA have provided 10,000 small barbel in stockings further upstream in the last five years, and these small fish will provide a kick-start to a self-sustaining barbel population in the future”

Fred Crouch Bench

After a good deal of hard work, we installed the bench in the compound on the Royalty Fishery today!

Brilliant job by James Van Gowler, an impressive piece of work!

We dug three holes two foot deep in hard ground, and concreted the bench in, after it needed six of
us to carry it to the site! It ain’t going nowhere!

Big thanks to Martin and Dickie, also Mel who came to help, plus James’s dad and his pal Paul.

There will be a full write up in this weeks Anglers Mail.

Berkshire fish-ins

Berkshire Regional organiser Paul Rogers had his first fish-ins last weekend, with a group of happy anglers fishing the Reading DAA waters on the Kennet at Lower Benyons on the Saturday, and the Loddon at Whistley on the Sunday. Barbel were caught both days, and a couple lost, and all had a great time and learnt a bit about new techniques and new waters.

Paul had a nice ten pounder from the Loddon.

Next fish-in on the same Reading DAA waters will be on 4th/5th October.

A few places left for BS members.

BS membership will give you a reduced fee for Associate membership of RDAA, and some great Kennet and Loddon barbel fishing on their waters!

BSC Raffle

Lots of people at the BSC bought raffle tickets for the Stephen Harper signed print of a Pike – the draw took place on Saturday 17th May – the winning ticket was drawn by Chris Yates from his fishing hat, and the winner is Mr. Ashley Pearman who had travelled to River Reads from Kent to have his copy of ‘The Lost Diary’ signed by Chris.

It was a great day and we all enjoyed seeing Chris again.

Thank everyone for taking part – the sum raised from the raffle for Angling Heritage was £145.
